Scotland in Charcoal is an ongoing collection of original artworks inspired by the quiet beauty of Scotland’s hills, forests and lochs.

Working from my own reference photographs, I explore atmosphere, light and texture, capturing the character of the landscape through a rich monochromatic palette. Charcoal is my primary medium, complemented by graphite, ink and pastel to build depth and subtle detail.

Each piece is created on birch cradled panels, allowing the natural beauty of the wood to become part of the finished artwork. Areas of the birch are intentionally left exposed, where the pale surface and delicate grain interact with the drawing, adding warmth and texture that cannot be achieved on paper alone.

Every artwork is professionally sealed and varnished, preserving the richness of the charcoal while eliminating the need for glass. Finished with dark oak stained edges, the panels are designed to hang without traditional framing, creating a clean, minimalist presentation that allows the artwork to take centre stage.

My aim is to capture the atmosphere and quiet sense of connection found within Scotland’s landscapes.
